Stormprophet (Beraazkhem's Theme)

about

“From a young age, he has felt himself drawn to storms, always watching lightning split the sky. Because of his draconic ancestry, he has a close affinity to lightning, and has constantly sought mastery over it. His tribe, the Raghthroknaar, was a people of land and sea alike. It is perhaps not a big surprise then that Beraazkhem sought out the sea when at storm, trying to seek the secrets of it. He learned to tell the signs of weather changes and could easily predict when a storm might approach.”

-Ingeborg

"Stormprophet" is my first commissioned piece of music from my dear friend in Norway, the wonderful artist and all around creative, Ingeborg “Ivy” Elve. In mid-March, Ivy messaged me inquiring about commissioning a theme for her DnD character Beraazkhem, a dragonborn barbarian. Having known Beraazkhem as a previous incarnation of her Viking character Bjoern and seeing him grow and develop, I immediately set to work on giving him a theme worthy of how awesome he is!

I consider myself more of an arranger rather than a composer. And when I do compose, it’s through improvising and experimentation rather than conventionally composing with notation. But, in the end, I’m really happy with how the process turned out! Inspiration for "Stormprophet" came from viking war songs, sea shanties and the work of video game composer Junichi Nakatsuru of the Soul Calibur series. Most of the sounds are MIDI and synth samples, but the clarinet lines are my own playing, recorded.

A huge thank you to Ivy for commissioning this short theme from me. I’m really glad you think it represents Beraazkhem so well!
